ObjectivesFund scope
Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is as much about effective development cooperation as it has to do with the scale and manner in which cooperation takes place. The Kenya SDG Partnership Platform was designed for members to take the lead in designing, facilitating, and coordinating responses that demonstrate how public and private partnerships can effectively translate the SDGs into sustainable outcomes. The platform gives members the opportunity to identify ways of accelerating impact, maximizing investments, and optimizing the utilization of resources in development settings across Kenya.
To elevate collaborative efforts, scale-up flagship public-private partnership programmes, and build on existing platforms the United Nations Office of the Resident Coordinator works closely with the Government of Kenya, UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF, WHO, and international, regional, and national stakeholders from the private sector. Partners complement coordinate initiatives that take public-private partnerships to the next level, effectively and successfully translating, guiding, and fast-tracking SDGs targets.
Strategic and results framework
The Platform represents the move among development partners from funding to financing. We understand the importance of reducing aid dependency by expanding blended financing options and, at the same time, widening the membership of United Nations platforms and funds so they include impact investors, venture capitalists, traditional philanthropists, and the application of innovative social bond and equity products.
Platform partners are expected to focus on four specific strategies:
- Joint advocacy and policy dialogue to create an environment that helps partnerships thrive.
- Identify and broker large scale public-private partnerships aligned with SDG themes in the Kenya UNDAF.
- Secure investments by optimizing blended financing instruments, redirecting capital flows for SDG implementation, and engaging a range of stakeholders from the public and private sectors.
- Institute monitoring, evaluation, learning, and research methods to provide information on promising policies and practices for SDG achievement.
Implemented through a two-pronged approach where data is gathered and analyzed platform members can jointly identify, design, plan, and implement bold and transformative initiatives in pursuit of broader goals and objectives. This renders the Kenya SDG Partnership Platform as an inclusive funding tool to create diverse SDG windows that accelerate targets and goals relevant to all Kenyans. One of the first strategies to roll-out is geared towards improving primary healthcare, which addresses SDG 3.
